I hadn't met any of the families or kids I was heading to meet on my (15.5 hr!) trip to Las Vegas at the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. I don't think I was really prepared for the amount of awesomeness I was in for. I met Kendal, who I helped turn into the Ballet Queen of Broadway - and seriously...this girl has got moves! She arrived with 4 different types of shoes, from Jazz to Tap to Ballet - and danced around an otherwise boring parking lot like it was a Broadway Stage.
How could I not be inspired?
Here's Kendal's original pic, which I had her explain to ABC News with Diane Sawyer, because there was such a great story behind it. She put so much thought into her drawing, and it means so much. You can see it for yourself...when she was battling her cancer it meant no friends, no church, no school. And her dream of being a Broadway star never died.
I couldn't wait to get started on her magical photo! I wanted to incorporate every little bit of her drawing into the final photo, but I felt that putting her front and centre on a stage in Broadway (in no other than Swan Lake!) would be just "right" enough. And, here's what I came up with.
This is honestly one of my favourite Drawing Hope pics ever. I love all of it - and her smile! So priceless. I will definitely be the first in line for tickets when she is headlining a show on Broadway or anywhere. I can't wait to see where her belief that Anything Is Possible will take her! This isn't the last you've seen of Kendal, trust me! She is a star in the making.
